Crashing my buddy's wedding

Sounds fun, but if it were my wedding, and my best man pulled some sh!t like that, the future wife would probably be pissed, which means I'd get in trouble, which means Id be pissed.

I say don't try to show off and steal the light, and let it be.
 
Wow. IDIOT. It's not 'just the reception' -- its his freakin' wedding. He shouldn't have to deal with your pranks, he should be paying attention to the wifey.
 
holly christ the op is a retard. i do not think the OP understands how much the wedding (which includes reception) matters to the wife. He pulls something like he is talking about it will make it memorable. but not in the way he is thinking. the friends wife is going to remember the fricken idiot that tried to ruin her wedding. Not to mention the cost of receptions and he wants to pull pranks?

if you truly want to make it memorable make sure everything goes well (which is part of your job). if you see something that looks like trouble run interference so the bride/groom does not know (until later). make sure your speech is great (if you need to steal one off the internet..i did heh). that is how you help to make it memorable and not the childish stunts that try to take attention off the bride.

 
WOW! I'm so glad my best man is my brother and wouldn't pull this kind of ******. Don't plan on having a friend after this wedding and plan on everyone in attendance to hate you.

yeap. if my best had pulled anything like this during my wedding i would not have talked to him again. just not worth the trouble it would cause with my wife.

not to mention a real friend would not do something to ruin the day.

If you were my best man and did that kind of stuff at my wedding, AND I had to hear about it from my wife for the REST OF MY LIFE, I'd stomp a mudhole in your ass and then walk it dry.

exactly. weddings cost too fvcking much for some asshole prank. Go after the car if you HAVE to do something, otherwise you should resist all urges for immature practical jokes.

The best man is the name given to the male assistant to the bridegroom at a wedding. Usually the groom gives this honor to someone who is close to him, either a brother or his closest male friend.
In the context of a traditional American/British white wedding, the best man's duties typically include:

* Plan and pay for bachelor party w/groomsmen.
* Possibly helping plan or organize some details of the wedding
* Help the groom dress and make sure he gets to the church on time, generally by sleeping in the groom's bedroom the night before
* Supervising the groomsmen
* Holding the bride's ring at the altar
* Acting as the officiant if the wedding ceremony is paid
* Make a first toast to the bride and groom. This is usually done before dinner but in some cases right after, usually at the expense of the bride and groom, and thanking the bridesmaids
* Stocking the men's room at the reception with mints and soap
* Rent and pay for a tux, and go for fittings.
* Attend rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
* Help bring boxes to ceremony and reception location.
* Keeps the bride?s wedding ring until the ring exchange. You may be asked to hold both rings or none at all if the ring bearer has them.
* Sign the marriage license.
* The couple will give you a sealed envelope with the officiant?s or church?s fee in it. You will give this the priest/officiant before the ceremony.
* Sit to the groom?s left at the reception.
* Dances with the maid of honour.
* Arranges transportation or personally drives the bride and groom to the hotel or the airport.
* Decorating the car of the married couple with soap, ribbons, cans and whipped cream.
* Collects and returns all formalwear rentals on time.
* Help maid of honour bring gifts to the bride and groom?s house.

No where in there does it say pull pranks!!!

Seriously, if my best man did some stupid shiat like that I would end our friendship on the spot. Its a very important day and you need to support him not stress him out.
 
LOL, OP is a dumbass, he doesn't even know what "crashing a wedding" means.

If you are invited to the reception (which I would hope you are since you are the best man), then you can't crash said wedding. You can only crash a wedding if you are not invited.

Second, your pranks sound stupid and not funny. Fake icecube bugs? Didn't you learn from the simpsons that those things are actually less sanitary than if a real bug were put in the drink? (from Dr. Hibert)
 
Wow, ATOT has spoken. Sounds like it's not such a great plan. I'm rethinking some of my ideas. I see that a bunch of you were wondering where I'm coming from with these ideas. You are correct in guessing that I have never attended a wedding before, so I don't quite know what to expect. While I've been named best man, I have not been told that I'll need to fill any of the roles that were listed in the above post. The wedding is going to be fairly simple--I'm guessing costs to be at $3000-$5000. The ceremony will be held outdoors, and everyone will move inside to a rented lodge for the reception. I don't know if there's going to be a toast, speech, etc--I'm going to have to be prepared for it at any rate.

As to it "ruining" THE day of their lives: If I'm a bit subtle, I know the groom isn't going to care too much. A few weeks ago he asked me if I was aware of any plans for disturbances, and said he was expecting them, it wasn't a big deal, but he just didn't want anyone touching his car, as he's worried about the paint. Of course, he would have been content to elope to the JP, but the bride wanted her wedding.

I still plan to try a few things, depending on how it looks. I'm expecting it to be semi-formal, with an easy-going crowd. Minor disturbances won't concern them too much I don't think, and it certainly won't "ruin" it for them. I'll have to see how things look once it gets going, though -- Sounds like it might not be such a great idea after all.
