First, my system components;

Antec SOHO 1080 AMG
4 80mm case fans
550 watt Power Supply
Gigabyte 8INXP without DVPRS
4 Sticks 512mb Corsair DDR 333 RAM (2048mb total)
Gigabyte Maya II 9700 PRO
P4 2.8 CPU with TT7 adjustable fan up to 6000+ RPM
WD 80 Gig SE 7200 RPM 8mb cache
Antec hard drive cooler with 2 40 mm fans
Sony 52X CD
Sony 52X CD-RW
Tiger Direct 1.44 Floppy
At133 Compatible Round IDE Cables

Well last night was the second major crash I had with my 8INXP board. This time it was something that probably had nothing to do with the mobo itself, but unfortunately I had to reload Windows XP and all the drivers again and now it is problematic. I spent about 3 hours last night working out all the kinks, and so I think anyway. Towards the end of it all I started having lock-up issues. I thought everything was set-up and running fine until I went into Age of Empires. About 5 minutes into the game it would lock up, so much so that I have to push the reset on the case. Reboot was fine and windows reported that I had a problem with my Radeon drivers and that caused a fault of some kind. Easy enough, so I reload the CD drivers (which is the most current) and I double checked my settings. I went back into Age Of Empires and the same thing happened. Frustrated now I decided to start changing things so I went into the advanced properties and disabled "Fast writes" which was the only thing I was really able to understand about the card. I set all the OpenGL and 3D settings to default like they were and went into Age of Empires....same thing. AHHHHH. I don't get it because the first time I powered the new system up everything worked like a champ without adjusting any "default settings". Now it seems to want and need me to change settings?? Well, as I was looking throught the 9700 Pro settings I found a place where it said the AGP was running at 2X, now I knew this was wrong but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to change it to 8X anywhere. This lead me to restarting and I went into BIOS. I found the part where I could change the AGP settings and I changed it to 4X instead of auto. This doesn't get me my 8X but it did however fix my problem for the time being anyway. I went into Age Of Empires and played a full length game without one iota of lag or lockup. Before I went to bed I ran a benchmark with 3DMark2001 and it made it through all the tests without a problem either. The score was in the mid 14000 range which is better than it was the first time I ran it when I first built my system up two weeks ago. Then it scored around 13300. I'm not familiar with how this rates on the greater scale so I mainly use the test to see if I can make it through the strenious graphics.
I am at witts end with running into these lock-up and settings issues and would like some tips from someone who can make my system run stable. This is the first system I ever built and all I want out of it is a stable gaming computer I can leave alone and get good performance issues out of. I don't know how to O/C and I don't know what items I should and shouldn't either, but for now I just want to make it stable. With my setup I shouldn't have any over temp problems and I shouldn't have any memory problems either, I tried to make sure of that. Right now I just need to know what frequencies and voltages to run all my components at so I can keep it stable and strong. Any takers? I need some help? Thanks in advance..

If you plan to reformat anyways there is a specific order to installing drivers after you install the OS:

MB drivers
Cat 3.1/Control Panel
Disable FastWrites after restart
Sound Card drivers
DX9

My 8INXP is on its way and I got this info from here.

Err... the problem lies with the SIS & VIA implementation of 8x... I've tested over a dozen 9700pro's with the Intel e7205 chipset and have found zero problems running at 8x. Read the thread I linked to in my other post and you will find the fix for the 9700pro running crash free.

Well, so far so good. I decided to go to ATI's website and download an updated 9700 Pro Driver because the updated one on Gigabytes site was the same as on the CD I have. I also downloaded the new control panel for the card there and now I have that SmartGart function that I didn't have before. Now amazingly I am running at 8X instead of 2X. That probably was the fix right there, but I went further. I went ahead and disabled my onboard codec sound because I don't need it or the drivers, I removed them too. Just for the sake of tweaking a bit, since I read on here how to do it. I increased the AGP frequency to 34/69 and uped the voltage by .1. I also increased my FSB to 140 just to see if it would be stable. Rhis brought mu CPU speed to 2.8539 which also showed that in device manager, which was cool.
I Ran 3DMark2001 and got an all time high for me which was 15563. I played a little unreal tournament II for about an hour and the CPU temp stayed around 40C. WHen I'm not in the game it likes to hang around 37-39C. Since I'm still new at this and am in no hurry to fry something in my ignorance I restored everything back to default settings and ran one more benchmark. With everything set at default and no tweaking, my 3DMark2001 score is 14913. This is fine for me and I'm quite satisfied. I'm hoping everything is good now and I thank you guys for all the advice, on this and other posts as well.
I'm sure something else will happen and I'll have a few more questions in the future. Thanks

Congrats... & enjoy the 8nixp and 9700pro. It's a great combo.
