This may be of some help. I just put together a new comp. The new PSU was bad and wouldn't even startup so I have to use my old crappy 400w until my replacement arrives.

I ran Orthos and received the exact same error. I can't find anywhere that explains the error so it seems kind of useless. Wel anyway, I ran memtest86+ for awhile..no errors but I get the same BF2 and BF1942 crashes as you. Sometimes it would crash while map was loading and sometimes after I started actually playing. I also would get some weird crashes when installing stuff.

I unplugged my old backup harddrives and haven't had a problem since. I think my problem is my psu and yours sounds very similar.

replacing the power supply is not difficult.

there are 4 screws holding it into the case that you unscrew to remove the old one.
Unplug all of the connectors from the power supply to the various components in your PC. Take notes if you need to, to be sure you connect to all the same places with the new one.

So you unplug, then unscrew the old PSU, put the new one in and secure it with the same 4 screws. Plug connectors from the new PSU into all of the same places that the old one went to.

You're done.

This should be obvious, but make sure you have the PSU completely unplugged before removal. I only say this because I read this one retard's post in an Xbox Modding website that went something like this: "I was checking some stuff in my box and I accidentally touched the processor's heatsink and got a HUGE zap!!! Now my xbox wont start up, wtf is going on!?"... ALWAYS unplug before you "check" anything :)

go to control panel, then to administration tools, then to event viewer, click applications, i bet you any money it is windows securitycenter. that crap usually crashed my cpu also while playing counter strike source. to minimize the frequency of the game crashing. edit you security settings so they will show no alerts. hopefully this helps you.
