OK.. so my friend got some new 3d glasses and they didn't work the way he wanted, so he tried to rollback the machine to try installing the drivers again. (This is a ECS K7S5A). He can boot to an error message from some NVmax, he said it was used to change the refresh rate. The problem is the mouse and keyboard doesn't respond AT ALL.
He can dual boot into Win98, and get to XP's command prompt/recovery console, the wireless keyboard works fine, and I tried a plain PS/2 keyboard, and XP still won't move. So I say screw it and start "repairing it", telling it to overwrite XP and reinstall itself.. It goes through the motions and when it gets to a GUI advertising the benefits of XP, it asks for a file, even though it has the XP cd in the drive. I try to tell it to look on the CD again when the keyboard and mouse doesn't work!!! (MS support mentioned the file has something to do with a driver that needed when you have both a CD burner and DVD drive.
Now the setup prog has taken hold of the MBR and keeps locking up. He says he has some tax docs on an NTFS partition he wants. MS says "Upgrade 98se to XP" grab the files, and "downgrade back to 98 in the add/remove control panel" I can't believe the recovery panel won't allow you to copy from NTFS to FAT! Help Please!
Thanks.
