Ok, so I got a ticket for not having insurance. Didn't know I didn't have it at the time. Purchased insurance. Went to court, asked for continuance. Went to student legal services on my campus. They told me I would just have to show up and show that I had bought insurance. I had it memorized that May 7th was the court date - found out it was TODAY! I called the police dept and asked what to do - they told me to go to the courthouse on Monday. Anyone know if I'm in trouble? Or what might happen?

Thanks

I believe this man is right. The same thing happened to my uncle who lived in Texas and he got the chair.

You're really at the mercy of the judge.

Go in early, be super polite to EVERYBODY, say 'please' and 'thank you,' explain your situation, ask the judge if there's any way to reschedule the court date.

They won't put ya in the slammer, but they might make you do some dumb community service or make you take some driving class crap or something. I can't see you being locked up or something for that though, especially if it's your first offense and you're already fixing what ya did wrong by buying insurance. Just depends on the judge, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it, you won't be in too deep I don't think.

[dad mode] Just make sure to be more aware! [/dad mode] :p

You can rest assured that there has been a warrent for your arrest for FTA Failure to appear plus Contempt of court..

I would stay home all weekend and be very careful so not to get into any trouble over the weekend.

In the future, don't just "try to remember" court dates. Calendars. Daily planners. Things of that sort.

You don't sound too bright. First you "don't know" that you're driving w/o insurance, and second you don't know when your court date is?

No, but talked to some people I know. they have been or know people who were in similar situations (missing court dates) and they said it was no biggie. I think as long as I go in Monday I'll be ok. We'll see what happens. I 'll just make sure not to get pulled over this weekend.:p

busy with exams?

Yeah and projects and work and about a million other things. But not really a good excuse.:frown:
