I thought it was that when you are walking you have all 3 buttoned. Then when you sit down you unbutton the bottom one, leaving top and middle buttoned when sitting?
Any thoughts on this?
Yes, don't do that. Keeping all three buttons buttoned is a sure sign of a huge geek.

interesting... i need to change my ways.

only wear a suit like 6-7 times a year.

thanks guys
<--- Wears one every day. :)

And that's how we know this stuff! Been wearing one every day for 6 years. I love the way I look in a suit.

:)

Middle only. Top two is acceptable, but middle only is more "in." I doubt you have one, but some of the nice Neapolitan suitmakers do 3 button suits where the lapel rolls over the top button so only the middle is really supposed to be buttoned.

As has been mentioned, you never button the bottom one.

what he said-

?!

More than one button - NEVER button the bottom button.

You button the top two.

You would look retarded if you left the top button unbuttoned!

agreed
top middle
never bottom
and specially always top

black suit, white shirt, red tie always worked for me.

Good luck on the interview.

that doesn't work either. if you cut off bottom, then you have to leave the bottom of the two remaining unbottoned. :)

Stupid buttons. I have a 3 button suit (my only one) and I've always asked the same question on which buttons. I thought it was ok to button all 3, but if you're buttoning something, button the top one. What's silly is that if the bottom one was never meant to be buttoned, it shouldn't have a damn buttonhole. Men are functional and extra crap just gets in the way and causes possible confusion.

Maybe this is why I never got that job 2 years ago...

Correct, black is for funerals and parties, not an interview.

For a funeral.
Navy or Charcoal is the standard.
Black is weird.

black suite, white shirt, red tie or other power color is always appropriate for anything.

No, seriously.

Beer, what are you doing soliciting ATOT for fashion advice? These people barely know how to use a clip-on tie.
NEVER trust fashion advice from a computer geek, ever.

I sure hope you didn't go to the interview with the bottom button buttoned. I would laugh at you if I was the interviewer.

lol. BTW, if you don't mind telling us beer, what job are you trying to get?

For some odd reason, i dont think an interviwer would disqualify you just because you buttoned the bottom two instead of the top two, or all three for that matter. Most people will tell you to button just the top ones (i do). Now if you put the bottom button in the middle whole and the middle button in the bottom hole, that would be a whole different story.

Black suits are not business attire and are frowned upon in business settings. How many times have you seen a CEO/Banker/Lawyer wearing a black suit while working?
