Do you need the WHOLE DAY off? Traffic offense tickets rarely take long to plead in court.
(not that I have personal experience, but my wife is a town court clerk 😉 )

that's what I'm thinking...maybe 1-2hrs of your day
Yeah, but the court is an hour and a half from my workplace, and my appearance is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
So what's wrong with leaving work at 11:30 AM?

Because it doesn't make sense for me to commute 3 hours for 2 hours of work.
Yet another tidbit of information you could have given us TO BEGIN WITH!!!
😀
Which tidbit is that?

The one about your commute time.

The commuting time you spend getting to work.

Now smile.

So the solution is to move CLOSER to work. Closer = less commute time. Less commute time = lower probability of future traffic tickets.

See - simple solution to avoid future hassles! 🙂

Ah - I think I understand 😉 Come upstate here to the Binghamton area. You can get a real nice house for under 100K. The Lockeed Martin plany in Owego is hiring (got the Presidential Helicopter contract!)

That also explains why he took a day off of work just to pick someone up at the airport. I was going to ask about that...

i'm sorry 🙁 i've been postponing job interviews because of stupid things like that, such as furniture deliveries ... blah blah blah yadda yadda... they come like every day now to give us new furniture 🙁

It wasn't just for that, read the original post. I had to get my taxes taken care of which took a few hours (my taxes are complicated), and I had to take care of a bunch of other things.

I guess you have to figure out how much more trouble you'll be in if you miss the whole day Monday compared to missing a half-day and driving the 3 hours.

Yeah, I just spoke to the boss and told him that I have to miss half a day, I'll drive the 3 hours. He was like "okay, do what you have to do". Now I feel like I should've told him I was gonna miss the whole day.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions and pile of dung that it produces. Welcome to the world, and it's your pile deal with it. If you get canned because you failed to take responsibility, oh well, lesson learned... or maybe not

Bullcrap! Who goes to a lawyer for a failure to yield ticket?

Really bad drivers that are in jeopardy of loosing their licence because of the number of tickets they have on their record.

First of all, I'm not gonna get fired even if I didn't show up for 3 straight days. But that's beside the point. I appreciate your welcoming me to the world, but I've probably been here longer than you. Oh, and you must've missed my update where I posted that my boss had absolutely no problem with it. Thanks for your input.

Funny when I was a Property Manager my Boss was a real dickhead when it came to taking a day off too. When my Father in Law passed away I had to threaten to quit to get his blessing to go out of state for a week.

If your job was anything like mine that means that you are salaried and on call 24 hours a day in case of emergencies (missed a few Holiday Dinners during the ten years I was at the job). It also meant that you would sometimes have to work late into the evening and on weekends to accommodate a client or a prospective tenant.

Yeah, risking other peoples lives to save you 20 seconds on the road should cost more than just a court date in my opinion. Just because it might not have ever caused a crash before doesn't mean it will never happen. I've never had a bear walk into my house while drinking a can of pepsi before. I guess if I always have a can of pepsi with me I'll never have to worry about bears. (it has never happened before while drinking pepsi! I swear!)

probably not, I dealt with bosses for years, and now I don't have one, I retired. With your whinning you sounded like one of the new generation of 20 something spoiled brats in their first job, and the shock that bosses actually want you to do your job, come to work, on time, and all the other things our youth fail to learn.

and how does one forget a court date?

My boss is not a bad guy at all, and he completely understood.

I don't really deal directly with tenants anymore. Each property has it's own office and staff, and the people in the offices work directly with the tenants. They answer to me and they are my responsibilty, I hire and fire the staff and the office people as needed.
My job is pretty much to make sure each property makes money. That means, make sure the leasing agents are filling the complexes, make sure the maintnance crews aren't spending ridiculous sums of money on nothing at all, etc. etc. Sure, I get called down for emergencies at all times of the night, but only if it's a "real" emergency (i.e. a fire or a gas leak).

Wow, you must've been there and seen what happened. It was 3:30 AM and not a soul was on the road. I was exiting off the highway, glanced over my shoulder and did not see any cars at all so I got off the ramp without slowing down. A policeman was on the side of the road and pulled me over. So, who's life did I risk?
