Crap, I'm in trouble

I had to take a day off from work today, I had to get my taxes done and I had to pick somone up at the airport at 4 AM among various other reasons. My boss wasn't thrilled when I asked him, in the end he agreed to let me take today off without too much arm twisting, but he wasn't happy because we are really busy right now. My lawyer calls me this evening and tells me that I have a court date ( for a faliure to yield ticket  ) on MONDAY. I had completely forgotten when it was. Now I have to tell my boss that I have to take off Monday too. He's gonna tear me a new one. 🙁

UPDATE: He had no problem with it at all. His words: "do what you have to do".

UPDATE 2: Lawyer got the ticket reduced to "impeding the flow of traffic" which is a glorified parking ticket. I paid $85 dollars and no points. Helps that my lawyer is the former prosecutor at that court! 🙂

Tell your boss to get over it (if you have the balls and don't like your job). You cannot plan nature around your job.

He can't fire you because of a court order. Granted he won't like you for a while but you're safe.......for now.

Do you have to miss the entire workday just to make a court appearance? Could you work late?

I do property management, so I can't work late. It's not like a computer job. And yeah, I have to miss the whole day. I work an hour and half from the court, and I have to be there at 1:30 PM.

But it sounds like you knew that you had this appearance coming up (obviously)...why didn't you inform him of it then?

Do you need the WHOLE DAY off? Traffic offense tickets rarely take long to plead in court.
(not that I have personal experience, but my wife is a town court clerk 😉 )

**edit - nevermind - same question asked AND answered while I was typing this

If you like your job, then you probably have good relations with your co-workers and upper-management. They'll understand if they're worth working for and have any comprehension as to what human nature is. If not, then I'd consider finding a new employer.

When you get back, ask them to buy your @$$ a Palm so you can get your $hit straight. 😉

Because I had completely forgotten about it. I got this ticket months ago, immediately went to the lawyer who got it postponed and I totally forgot when it was scheduled for.

I AM upper-management and they already bought me a PPC. I had just forgotten. Plain and simple.

Yeah, but the court is an hour and a half from my workplace, and my appearance is scheduled for 1:30 PM.

So what's wrong with leaving work at 11:30 AM?

Because it doesn't make sense for me to commute 3 hours for 2 hours of work.
