I was driving home from a late night movie and ran over something while i was in my neighborhood. I got out to see and it was a cat, I'm pretty sure it was dead. I didn't see it in front of me before I drove over it so it must've got onto the street right before it hit my tire. It had a collar, but no tags on it. I kinda panicked and didn't know what to do so I left it there, I'm an ass 🙁
That sucks, but make the most of it by hanging it over your garage door to serve as a warning to all the others.
God help me, I lol'd.

I've dealt with a similar situation before.
But it was my friend who was driving. He wanted to leave but I asked, "What if it was your dog?" (who he loves more than his gf)...
So we got out of the car... called AC (animal control) and they came out to take the body.
While we waited for them, we called the owner and told them to meet AC where the cat was.
He was not at fault since the cat was on the road.
We met the owner and she was crying but not pissed at us. Her cat is a neighborhood cat, but she didn't think it would get hit by a car from raoming around.
She had nothing to say in the sense of hatred toward my friend, because she knew it was an accident.
Needless to say, she was informed and not just wondering where her cat went.

well, here is the thing. The cat had a collar and not tag. That's what the OP said. I don't think there was much he could have done, besides walk around the whole neighborhood and ask if they own a cat.

QFT. I know someone who rolled their SUV because they swerved to avoid a squirrel. 😕 Luckily they were ok, but they should have just hit the damn thing instead of swerving in a top heavy car while doing 50.
I'm sorry about your friends, its hard to lose a friend, let alone 3 at once.

WTF does living in the US have to do with it? Cats don't get hit by cars in other countries if there are in the road. Do you have some kind of cat avoidance devices on your cars?

We don't have a deal with cats.
With pigeons, yes, but not with cats or squirrels.
Agreed. If you only want outdoor cats, you shouldn't have cats. Try a snake. A snake doesn't need attention all the time, and it won't care or even notice if you happen to just plain forget about it for a few days. Plus with a snake, you're less likely to get injured. I've got a ball python. It's never bitten me once. My cats have lightly bitten me (playfully though) and scratched occasionally. That's more than the snake has ever done. The snake's only willing to bite if he smells mice - then putting your hand in front of him would just be stupid, because he'll be willing to bite anything that's warm or moving.People should:
1. Not let their cats out
2. Get them fixed regardless

Defintely - do not endanger yourself or any other drivers if an animal is on the road. I generally try to stay aware of what's around me, but if I'm not entirely sure that there road behind me is clear, I check first, then brake for animals on the road....small ones anyway. Other day there were 3 deer in the road. Those things will mess a car up. And they're quite stupid too. "Duuhhhh.....that there big fast thing is moving toward us, just like all the big things do on these big gray flat hard things with the yellow line. Ya think it might keep coming? Maybe we'd better stand perfectly still and just watch it."too many damn cats in the world anyhow, took out a greatdane in my celica many years ago.if they run in front of you don't swerve for an animal unless of course it has great mass, like a deer or an elk or a cow or something the like. Indoor cats are generally provided with an exceptionally good life. They never fear going hungry, they have no worries about predators or unfriendly animals. They have better medical care than many humans do. It's the price they pay. Staying inside too means that they don't bring home fun things like fleas and ticks, and their complimentary diseases.I think cats should be allowed to roam about and do whatever they want.
And yes, we have had a cat hit by a car, and it was sad, but I think that allowing the cat to roam around is very important, and I don't think anyone should restrict their cat to being indoors.
People can get hit by cars too, but you don't see them being forced to stay indoors.
