A little background information...I turn 17 next month and I drive a 2000 Ford Taurus.

Now, I was coming home from school with 1) Me 2) My Sister 3) 3 of my Sister's friends. Since I have restrictions, I can only have 1 non-immediate family member in the car along with immediate family members and me. This is a two lane road with a limit of 40 MPH, which everyone always ignores and mostly goes 50-55 MPH. I was in the right lane behind this other car, and this car was cutting a hard right into a driveway (must not have been paying attention), so my instincts told me to switch to the left lane to avoid jamming on my breaks. Well I guess I ended up going over 50 (52 exactly), and a cop was right there in a driveway clocking me. He pulled out of the driveway and once he saw the loaded car, pulled me over.

He said I was going 52 in a 40 MPH zone, but I would only get a warning for that. Then once he saw that I had restrictions, gave me a ticket which is $163 and 3 points. He said with a car full of people, I shouldn't be speeding even if I had to switch lanes due to the actions of the driver in front of me.

Now WTF, I'm pretty pissed off, because they were all MY sister's friends (none of mine) in the car, and it was largely their fault for me getting a ticket (otherwise I would have just gotten the warning). Granted, they did say they would pay for my ticket, but the 3 points will cause my insurance to sky rocket.

Is there anyway I can protest a restrictions violation in court?

How was it their fault? They didn't force you at gunpoint to drive them anywhere.

You knew the rules, you broke the rules. I'm sorry but you should have been paying more attention and stayed in your lane. You would have avoided this whole mess. It's an expensive lesson to learn.

X-Copper! try them if they have 'em in your state. You pay them a fee and they fight on your behalf and usually win.

So you were (a) speeding, (b) breaking your restrictions, (c) following so close that it was unsafe, and (d) most likely made an illegal pass. Note: I'm assuming that last part from the evidence you have given us so far - however you may have done it properly. All that and you want to blame other people?

The cop should have cited you for following too close, as well.

You fought the law and the law won...

You ought to be pissed at yourself for:
1) Being weak and not sticking to your restrictions
2) Being unobservant and tailgating a car getting ready to turn right
3) Being rebellious and exceeding the speed limit

I'd say that all of this on top of your existing situation should, _SHOULD_ add up to parents/guardians taking away the car keys.

Be a man... or what a man used to be. Take the responsiblity. Show it to the girls that you ARE a responsible DUDE and gentleman.

Or you can do the opposite...

BTW... its dangerous to change lanes suddenly like you are describing... I hope that you do check your mirror before you change lane.

You dont want to be the next guy on the news that killed Chicks.

That's a tough break, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But...

Um, no. It's all on you, and it's laughable to think otherwise unless they forced you at gunpoint to drive them.

Why does everybody think they are great drivers while they have no experience? If you are new to driving, you might consider not speeding, regardless of what everyone else does. Not because speeding is automatically equal to stupidity, but because you don't have the experience to react properly to surprises, as you found out. It doesn't make you a bad driver, it just means you are inexperienced. And without experience, it's probably better to be more cautious than the majority of the other drivers on the road.

Forget about what "everybody" else does and don't drive over the speed limit. I learned this around 25 or so but maybe you can be smarter than me.

You're displacing responsibility. Just drive more carefully and safely in the future.

The road I was driving on isn't a country road, it's very crowded and it's almost bumper to bumper all the way.

As far as my sister's friends, 1 was a girl, 2 were guys. I know they didnt force me at gun point, but they didnt have any ride at all...no bus, no parents, no friends who could give them a ride, so I kinda had to take them.

I know It is my fault and im a fvcking idiot, but I just had to talk about it.

Driving restrictions are extremely lame. Especialy the rule about only being with 1 non family member at a time in the car. This basically puts more inexperienced drivers on the road at one time than ever before. Carpool? Forget about it. Each person has to get in their own driving death hammer and go for a spin. Sounds counterproductive to me.

Regardless. The laws exist. You were doing 10+ the speed limit (where I come from you can forget about a warning for this alone) and you were breaking the passenger limit. So you are going to have to eat it. Be a man and don't shift the blame to others. You screwed up, you pay. That's just how it works.
