I have a couple items listed on CL and just got the following email regarding from someone who had expressed interest in my items:

----

Thanks for your reply concerning my inquiry. I am quite comfortable with the condition of the item. Since I won't be making any repairs on it, I will add $50 to the purchase price... for you to hold it for me,Please provide your full name, Address and your Phone number so that I can send your payment. I will be paying you by check/Money Order.. It will take 2 -3 days for the payment to get to you...As for delivery, I will make arrangements for the pick-up after you have received payment,If this meets your approval, kindly get back to me, as soon as possible, with your name, phone # and mailing address where payment will be sent, so that I can have my assistant get the check ready.

Note:
As soon as you have your money in hand, we can talk about the picking
up of the item.
I would like you to take the posting off craigslist.org today.
Best Regards.

Does this seem like a scam to ATOT? The add $50, pay by assistant with check/mo has my scam radar going off like crazy...

Pretty much everything besides "Cash and where do you want to meet up in person?" is a scam on craigslist.

Tell them to just bring cash when they come to pick it up, and you're going to leave the posting up on craigslist until they pay.

I used to wonder how the hell people get scammed into this stuff, but even ATOT seems not to be sure on the obvious stuff, which amazes me.

I stopped reading there. Yes it's a scam.

Thanks guys! I knew ATOT would set me straight. I'm a CL newbie and can be pretty gullible some times.

You had to get that far? Who calls, in an email, anything "the item"? I've sold a lawn mower, sewing machine, even a car on Craigslist, and all the real buyers tended to call "the item" by what it was....car, sewing machine, lawn mower, etc.

:)

I don't try to sell all my belongings in one ad so it's not uncommon for me to get inquiries with "Is this item still available....". That's on CL and other online FS/T forums.

Obligatory, if you have to ask, you have no business breathing.

1. I knew this was a scam before I even clicked on the thread.

2. As soon as I started reading, I noticed on the line below the one I was reading that whoever wrote it used a comma without putting a space after it, and capitalized the next word. That's a very common typo among scammers.

How is your liver? It must be very rich and tender by now.
