cash ONLY

as an aside, the most money I've ever carried is something like $7K at todays exchange rate (~5K back then). I was in Switzerland and bought a watch for my dad's 60th bday. It feels odd to carry that much cash:

Money order is usually best. Heck, since people here are suggesting cash, check, and paypal, why not throw gold ingots in there?

NEVER use paypal to pay for something you are picking up locally.

nothing wrong with paying via paypal if you're the buyer as it gives you more protection - especially if you're funding your paypal account with your credit card. If you're the seller, don't accept paypal as paypal offers absolutely NO protection to sellers in this instance.

Cash only. No bills larger than a $20. Meet face to face, preferably in public. Then have him follow you to the bank with the item and deposit it into your account. Have it verified and then your transaction is done.

You expect to be handed 4,000 one dollar bills or something?

I had a guy pay me $13,000 in 20s and 50s once. It took forever to count it. Then three trips to the bank over a week to deposit a portion of it to keep from being labeled a drug dealer by the feds.

Your experience is not equal to the possibilities.

Even using a CC through paypal isn't always guaranteed protection.

Cash transactions are easily verified with a simple pen. However; what do you think will happen if you pull it out on a counterfeiter?

I would do no huge cash transfers at my home. What happens if your buyer leaves and immediately someone does a robbery on you? What happens if that buyer gets 'mugged' at your front door? Many businesses don't accept huge cash payments for this reason. When a bank has someone requesting a huge cash withdrawl, many times they will escort them off the property if they even allow it.

This doesn't really apply to sub-four figure+ things, no one is going to risk jail time over something they'd probably shoplift easier.
