I cant believe some of the people on craigslist these days. They post somthing at a low price, you jump on it, then others chime in and it turns into an auction. Is everyone so greedy?

You want something below the cost others are willing to pay, and they're the greedy ones?

I worry about this.

Fortunately for me, I got a $500 portable AC unit for only $100 on craigslist a few days ago! (14k BTUs, dual hose, fancy remote, etc.) After about $15 spent on insulation foam of various types... She's installed for good! And man, it works pretty well.

It even has a built-in air filter! (Which is awesome because I have horrible allergies and was considering buying a separate air-filtration unit. Now I just gotta find some new replacement filters after the one I have goes bad.)

If they are wanting.the maximum amount of money for somthing why post it at such a low price? Why not post high then haggle if no one wants it. Ebay is there if u want an auction.

OP, I've never run into that problem on CL but there are so many other, more significant reasons that CL is "getting" bad that the place has become a wasteland for me personally. In the past I've spent 5 figures on CL for electronics, a car, etc. but haven't picked up anything in 5 years. Other reasons why CL is getting worse include:

1) Flakey sellers
2) Spam by sellers. I know of one local private seller that posts 50 ads every other day instead of creating just one ad.
3) Flakey buyers that piss off (1) above

Nothing but good luck for me. Sure beats the old days when youd have to take out a $30 newspaper ad that allowed two lines of text.

It's a great deal... until the mouse pops out...

Like most things, it's what you make of it.
I don't give the option to email anymore, too much spam. Here's the latest spam I received via email when I forgot to change it:

All the jewelry all the cars whose crew is the hardest now the hip-hop police the villains is watching kids think only option. Respond whenever you get a chance so we can both arrange a time to meet up so I can pick it up, mine is Jceaqv@live.com

The first line of my ad

LOL.
I easily filter out the tire kickers, the spammers, and undesirables and do pretty well.

I haven't been on CL in a while. Is it still a requirement to show reflections of your genitals in any item you're selling?

I don't understand. Craigslist isn't a forum. Someone posts something, you contact the seller through email/phone/text, and there is no discussion about it. Anyone who wants to post the same heading with a "re" in front of it and use it as a way to communicate with the seller gets flagged.

It's not a forum or blog, its an electronic bulletin board, nothing more.

So...CL is bad because other humans are bad. What exactly do you want CL to do about it? Act as a mediator between you and buyers/sellers to make sure that your process goes smoothly? And you want this for free?

If you want to see really bad, you should check out the "For Rent" section for NYC:

Brokers in the "by owners" section
Repeated ads galore
Ads that are for different apartments but are an amalgam of the same photos
Hiding keywords in ads to make it pop up in every search

It's just a jungle.

Sounds like you aren't a fan of capitalism.....

You might want to consider moving to another country there, Comrade...

OMG, that dude is a professional asshole, have to admit it is a major LOL, how he find the time to F with people is beyond me but he's a pro. As far as CL, I've had minor issues with people not showing up after begging me to "hold" an item for them so from now on out I just give someone 2hrs max, after that I'll sell it to the next person. I bought a Weber grill, basic model 6 months old for $100, a dude living in a gated community bought it, it had no side burner and that pissed off his wife so let it go cheap to get it out of the way for a new one (with a side burner), even the low-end Weber is a $400 grill so I got a great deal.

Unfortunately, many Craigslist posts are still written like that's all they're allowed.

"car for sale runs $3000"

Ok....what kind of car, what color, where are the pictures, where are you located, what year is it.......anything?

Or apartments or houses for rent, but they don't show pictures, and they don't even tell you where it is.

Some aren't written as though they had only 2 lines available - they're written as though they are being charged by the byte.
