Craigslist has replaced the newspaper for old people to pawn off their goods. For some reason older people seem to think electronics and computer hardware retain their value. I see things like "1998 laptop, hardly used, like new! $500! Paid $1500!"

A computer isn't like a classic car grandpa. If you keep it garaged and waxed, it's not going to increase in value over time.

Old people sometimes like to pretend they don't understand inflation too. In the late 90s I was paid 75 cents for walking a neighbors dog for 2 weeks while she recovered from some kind of surgery. It was actually kind of insulting in a way since I wasn't expecting payment and just considered it favor/nice thing to do. The dog was a really sweet dog so I didn't mind. But then when I got paid it left me feeling like my efforts were worth 5 cents an hour. Which is hilarious because I'm guessing that would have been a terrible wage in 1937.

I wasn't aware this was unique to Craigslist.

Check eBay, Best Buy, or any other merchant and you'll see the same shit going on.

They subscribe to the economic theory that suits them best in a given situation.

If you ever call them out on it, they blast out the "I'm on a fixed income!" defense.

So is craigslist the joke, or the fact that you are looking there to "piece together a cheap computer" for your lady the joke? Next are you going to tell us that Carmax sucks because they didn't have the $500 beater you wanted, and they were charging over kbb on their junkers?

Instead of scorning a service or tool, perhaps you should realize the best way to utilize it?

"Vehicle for sale: Runs great, 534,392 miles, $25000 new. Selling for $2500. Already installed: A family of rabid sociopathic racoons lives in the trunk."

Win ME = the "bonus" sociopathic raccoons part!

If I was from Ohio I'd be bitter too!

ON a serious note, every once in a while there are good deals on CL. There are. Its just these people are from the loony bin.

The joke might be the fact that a person is complaining about the person complaining about something. :)

My incentive is to hopefully persuade someone to avoid buying something that is overpriced and outdated. I know before forums and the internet, I got taken for rides and ripped off because I couldn't get a smarter opinion. I'm thankful for reviews and comments from people with experience so I can make the better choice.

Anyone is free to list something for any price and I'm free to point at them and comment.

Somebody just as clue less might buy it and be completely happy with it. Who cares. What get's me are the scammers who direct you to fake internet web site where their product have inflated prices, think white van speaker scams.

Hey we're trying to make as much meth as you guys out in Oregon, but it's really hard, you have vast swaths of desert/national forest that are essentially only good for cooking meth, and raping women.

Ohio is only the second worst state I have lived in, but yeah it is rough actually being from here...
