Craigslist/eBay steals

I cruise CL all the time for crazy good deals on camera equipment that I don't even need. It's fun and profitable.

I just found a Sigma 12mm-24mm f4.5-5.6 and SB-28 flash for $350. I may keep the flash for strobist activities. Could still sell the lens for ~$500.

What are some other crazy deals you guys have found?

I bought a Nikon 400mm f/2.8 AF-D for $400 on CL. Sold it for $1900 on eBay.

The guy was clearing out his old film gear and thought it was worth a lot less than what he paid because it was 20 years old.

Unfortunately most of the stuff too good to be true on CL is stolen.

A friend got a real (not Epiphone) Gibson Les Paul Custom for $250. Of course the serial number was removed. That same person was selling all sorts of music and recording gear "their parent's" no longer wanted. While I cannot guarantee it was indeed stolen, I can say the chances are probably 99% certain.

I once got 10 Dell Poweredge 1850's for $225 on ebay. Was from a local recycling place. Picked them up in my honda accord and nearly dragged the back of my car all the way home. Sold most of them for ~$150 each, and kept a couple for lab stuff.

That was also the last time that particular seller listed such listings auction style w\ no reserve.

From my experience, there are some steals, but most of the time I get there and the lens is not as "LNIB" as they say it is. Or it looks like it has been ridden hard and put away wet. I am leery of deals like that cause lens motors can go bad after a while, and getting them fixed can set you back a bit. From my experience, the people who take care of their lenses know exactly what the used market is for that particular lens or item.
