isnt Vizio the only US manufacturer left?

They're US based, but all of their stuff is assembled in Taiwan, China and Mexico. That's not different from other companies though. I don't know what it takes for people to trust a brand, but IMO Vizio has earned respect. $500 goes further with Vizio these days than anything else.

Now to figure out if it's worth to fix this 43" plasma I bought last year or just trash it. __________________

Generally speaking, unless you can get a free quote for repair you might aswell trash/sell as is.
