Deal is definately HOT for me.. And if you are a member of the craftmans club you get a discount ^^ mine was 8.99 out of the 89.88 :) It was about $96 shipped

What do you guys think is a better deal. I only want something that will do simple tasks around the home and basic car work.

102pc - $49
60pc - $29

I was thinking the 102pc since it comes with a lifetime guarantee (no mention of that for the 60pc set) and the difference between the two sets is only $20...?

Yes, this is true for hand tools. Power tools don't count.

Hmmm...then that makes my decision harder if both have lifetime guarantees.

The smaller set has more wrenches, but the bigger set has way more smaller parts including hex bits...

i also noticed their torque wrenches don't have lifetime. only 90 days. i then came to find out that autozone lends out the big ones, 250lb/ft for free.

damnit, just called sears and they told me the 173 piece set doesn't come with a case, just comes in a box with bags of loose pieces....

Actually there is a special exception for torque wrenches too (which come with a 90day, IIRC)

Too many people would crank on the torque wrenches with a steel pipe, bend & exchange, so they made an exception.

I wondered this myself. I did some googling and found:

Craftsman Clubs

Turns out the only way to join is to send in a membership form, OR call an 800 number.

I called the 800 number and after waiting on hold the nice lady informed me it would be six to eight WEEKS before I receive any membership materials and eligibility for discounts.

Dang.

Why would anyone crank on a torque wrench with a steel pipe. It seems silly.

i broke down and bought the 173 piece along with a 4 drawer plastic tool chest for $30. the tool chest has these form-fitted drawers for 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sockets and wrench. total came to be $130 with tax. finally i won't have to use sh!tty tools anymore.

It's easier just to get a breaker bar and steel pipe to generate torque. One you break the bolts free you can use the torque wrench to crank it off.

Thank you for coming to sears.com. We are currently re-configuring our web site to better serve you. Please try to come back again soon.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Sears. I'm surprised they don't have some misleading bait-and-switch sale offer on their site mtc page.
