They have a metric one but it's not Craftsman, same deal on price though. Hmmmm.

Aren't the Craftsman the ones they give lifetime warranties on?

Craftsman tools come with lifetime warranty, but only on hand tools AFAIK (including sockets). So beware if you buy say their belt sander with the idea that you can just take it back if it breaks after 3 years.

Hahaha, the lifetime warranty rules. I use craftsman sockets on an impact wrench and break them to bits. I just laugh when i bring them back. So far no troubles.

You're absolutely right. These are "Companion" Brand. "A Genuine Sears Product"

Yet the web page clearly says Craftsman! WHo do we complain to?

These have NO WARRANTY stated on the package at all!!

Even so, I bought a pack each of SAE and Metric --- You can't go wrong at $0.50 a socket. While they're clearly not Craftsman quality with respect to "mirror" finish of the Nickel chrome plating, and they're made in China vs. the US, they seem functional enough. Plus they even include a metal storage rail for the sockets.

With respect to the warranty, or lack therof, consider :

1.) We're only dealing with 1/4 " drive, so they will probably be able to take the torque for most jobs where you would be using a ratchet/socket of this size (vs. 3/8" or 1/2"); and

2.) I don't recall ever breaking a 1/4 inch socket. From what I can recall, it has happened to me: when I've been using a 3/8" drive socket that's >7/16" dia., typically with a breaker bar or somewhere where I should really have been using 1/2" drive; or being powered by a good cordless drill/driver.

But it is great when you bring in a beat up old, broken (Craftsman) tool into a Sears and walk out with a brand new one.

HI All

I dont mean to crap on your thread, but the quality of Craftsmen, sucks. I bought a set of the top of the line craftsmen deep sockets and they cracked. Also, I bought a ratchet and it too, broke with very little use. I rarely use them but i expect em to work when I need em.

I have to disagree. Granted, Craftsman durability+precision isn't going to be as good as the real high end tools like Snap-On/Mac/Matco ($$$$$$$$), but they have the same warranty. And although it seems to be more hit or miss these days, their quality isn't too bad for most people. At least it's better than 90% of the dime-store specials out there. I have a 1/2" ratchet and socket set I use regularly (automotive) and so far it's held up well. Even the 12pt socket didn't disappoint me when coupled with a 2' breaker bar for loosening wheel nuts (I know I know). If you are a professional and absolutely need the highest quality and durability, you probably can afford the $$$$ tools that come out of a step van and definitely should invest in them. For the rest, there's really no need to do absurd things like spend $70 on a single ratchet!! (plus $100 for some sockets to go with that)
