I recently bought a Cambridge DTT2500 5.1 Speaker set. When I would play MP3's I would hear slight crackling noises from the rear speakers. I first thought it was the speakers but then when I plugged in headphones into the back of the soundcard I got the same crackling. I just don't know what is causing this noise, its very annoying, but one thing I noticed is that the crackling is persistent when I am doing other things like typing documents while the mp3's are playing. I've tried a Ultra Player and Winamp and the result is the same. Here's my comp's specs:

Pentium III 700 MHz
256 MB RAM
Sound Blaster Live! Value

Doesnt sound like you have a memory issue not with 256. I would do a record without any source just dead air and see if you have the crackle then. Also try moving the card to a diff slot.

Check the cables on the outside of the computer.
Try making sure the adudio out cable does not cross/touch any other cables.

Is the crackling consistent? If so, could be a fan inside the computer.

You may want to remove all unessary hardware from the computer. I had a SCSI card causing noise that I could hear on my speakers. SCSI was internal only, and seperated by several slots. Replaced the card via RMA with adaptec and the buzz went away.

Did you notice the noise before? Probably was always there, but you can hear it with the new spearks....

My Two Cents....

I also have this problem with my Abit KT7 and 1 ghz T-Bird. I didn't have this problem before I moved to this motherboard and processor. I have fresh installed Win2k two times and loaded the newest drivers for everything and still the sound crackles whenever I do something somewhat CPU-intensive at the same time. I have no idea what it could be. If you should find a solution, please let me know.

Hello,
I have had the same problem, as have MANY others- especially those running VIA chipsets. Although the same thing did happen on my old BX as well. As far as I can tell it has absolutely nothing to do with anything except the stinking card itself, I have tried anything, i mean everything to get the crackling to stop to no avail. The only thing that works, but disables the ability to use some features of the card, is to goto control panel, then sound and multimedia, hit the audio tab, then under sound playback preferred device hit advanced. Hit performance tab and then move the slider bar to a lower position. My problems stop when on basic. This also means I cannot use EAX in a game, but its better than hearing a simulated bowl of rice crispies in 3d.
As for Creative, I would suggest they make a fix for this as soon as possible i know many many out there are not pleased with the fact their soundcard will not work as it is supposed to. I think they ought to recall the whole lot and ship us out fixed cards.
