Cracking/Decoding/Whatever the Secrets of the Da Vinci Code

For anyone whose read The Da Vinci Code, there are several of those "Secrets of..." books out there. Is there one that's better than the others? I'm planning on ordering the Da Vinci Code and would like to get one of those Secrets books, too.
 
I would read Da Vinci Code first before you get too far into it. I just read it last weekend, the first 2/3 was great, the rest was a complete ripoff and letdown.

Didn't like the code..

Try looking up stuff on tThe Legend of the Cathars. that's some cool history.
 
Oh, I plan on reading the whole book first. I was just wanting opinions on the various "Secrets of" books since there seems to be several of them.
 
...you should read Angels & Demons. It was writtien before Da Vinci Code. Very similar book, and the main character is none other than Robert Langdon.

I also read Digital Fortress by Dan Brown but it wasn't as good as davinci and angels&demons.


BTW, if you liked Da Vinci Code new book came out with more detail than da vinci code provided. it's called Rule of Four. I haven't read it, but I hear it's good.


ALSO - If you read Da Vinci Code, you should be aware that a sequel is being written. You can also find out about the sequel by holding the dust cover of the Da Vinci Code in the mirror... there's text that reveals some stuff about the sequel... pretty cool.

LASTLY - "The Boston Herald reports that George Clooney, Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks and Hugh Jackman are all in the running to star in the film adaptation of the runaway best-selling book, The Da Vinci Code, by New Hampshire author Dan Brown"

Many of the books were written out of fear in an attempt to debunk the Da Vinci Code.

I have requested my local library to reserve any that they get for myself to look at.
 
Oh yeah...I know. I just didn't know what the content of the "Secrets of" books were and if they were worth getting.

Many books that are fiction are researched by the authors and laced with tibits of truth.

Brown's book is laced with enough truth/theory to scare the zealots.

When I read it, I did not feel any heavy religious overtones with the exception of poking a stick at a certain religion.

There was not preaching. More the fact of a piecing together of information/history and drawing a conclusion from it.

The conern that the opposition has; will be that either the pieces were cherry picked taken out of context or twisted to meet the intentions of the presenter.

Therefore great effort will be expended to discredit and/or slant the original story.

Dang that sounds like politics in a different wrapper. :Q
 
Don't know anything about the "Secrets of" books but I did enjoy The DaVinci Code and I also second the suggestion of Angels & Demons, another good book.

No, it makes the da vinci code look like a mass-market thriller best-seller pageturner. Can't really compare the two books.
 
i just finished reading this book as of 4am. I read, and finished the 2nd half of the book today (over 200pgs)! That's a lot for someone that hardly reads novels like myself. Very interesting book, and a great adventure. I'm going to start reading Angels & Demons pretty soon, how does that compare to this book?
 
is the "rule of 4" stuff about how civilization goes through a cycle of certain stuff? I remeber out history teacher talking about that a while back... not sure if it's the same thing or what....
 
i also like angels and demons... in fact, i prefer it to the da vinci code as far as reading goes. I got on a plane to china, finished it before i landed, and that was w/ a 4 hr nap... just couldn't put it down.
