cracked notebook LCD screen

Hi,

I have an Averatec 2370 notebook with a cracked LCD screen. I tried installing two different replacement screens made by different manufacturers, and they will not turn on. When reinstalling my cracked screen, it turns on fine. According to the supplier, both of these replacements are compatible with my notebook. He said he even called Averatec to confirm, and they told him that those models were used by Averatec as OEM screens.

So this is definitely a LCD screen issue, right? Is there anything I might be missing?

My OEM screen is a Chi Mei N121i1-L02 Rev.C1 LCD (cracked).
My first replacement was an AU Optronics B121EW01, which I already RMA'd.
My second replacement is a Quanta QD12TL01, which I am about to RMA.
Again, all of these models are supposedly used by Averatec as OEM screens.

Any help appreciated.

maybe its how you cracked it in the first place. for example, if you dropped it or something, maybe something else got damaged

I thought about that, but as I mentioned, the cracked screen still lights up and works. The replacements don't light up at all.

"I tried installing two different replacement screens made by different manufacturers, and they will not turn on"

There you go.....

Open up the LCD chassis and look for the LCD model number on the back.

Then go to ebay and find a replacement.

Then the replacements are not the correct thing. You need to contact the notebook MFG and get it from them.

Tried calling Averatec, and they are useless. They basically told me to send my notebook to their repair facility, which is run by someone other than Averatec. They don't sell parts, and they don't quote prices. My only option with them is to send them my notebook in order to get a quote, which I'd rather not bother with. The shop I ordered those replacements from said that he spoke to Avertec, and they insist that both are compatible and installed as OEM screens on my model of notebook.

Yep, as I said in the first post, I did take it apart. Unfortunately, nobody stocks the exact same model LCD screen as my OEM (Chi Mei), including sellers on ebay. I was told by two different suppliers that the AU Optronics that I had ordered and installed is indeed compatible with my notebook. Because I have no reason to believe that either of these suppliers are not being truthful, I just wanted make sure I wasn't overlooking something and decided to ask these questions here:

Thanks anyways.

Thanks for the links. $300 is steep, but if it works, I'll just bite the bullet and get it over with.

I though the the same thing about the inverter, but everything I've read on the internet makes no mention of inverter compatibility.

Thanks.

$300 is the same price as a 3 year warranty with mfg. like dell or HP. So if you have had this laptop for 3 or close to 3years with little or no other costs consider yourself about even. I mean if you had purchased a 3 year warranty it would have cost the same right?

I am betting on inverter for each model as well.

I just wanted to thank Gibson486 for the suggestion. I finally purchased the $300 Chi Mei, and it works great (except for one stuck pixel -- luckily it's on the edge of the screen).

Sorry to post to such an old thread (I totally forgot about it!), but I thought this information might be useful for anyone with a similar problem.
