Got the dualie Celery 450 in from Xrayman yesterday and added it to the rack, bringing the total up to nine nodes and the server. Had to add a hard drive to this one and do a Mandrake install, as the Freesco distro doesn't support SMP.

Will be adding another 850 either tommorrow or Thursday (have an RMA'd BX6r2 to put in to service).:)

That's it until I get another switch in.:(

wouldn't it be a lot cheaper for you to get a big old hub instead?
like a old 24+ port 10 baseT hub... those crack rack don't need 100Mb/sec do they?

It would be cheaper, but I won't be cracking RC5 forever. Switches are more versatile.

The BK-herd is now officially athlon-less again. At least, until i get my KA7 RMAe'd...which is at least 4-5 weeks...(i hope i get it before i leave for college :( )

So while I was cracking away at warp 3 (hey, its fast for me :) ), I'm now down to the far-away herd, and my one ship which has nothing more than impulse power (Aka, the Cyrix).

Oh well, live and learn...

(BTW - S@H guys...this also means no more WU's from me until i get the mobo).

BK,

Four or five weeks? Who the hell did you buy it from? It shouldn't take more than a week, including shipping.

Russ - allstarshop. Because its after 30 days, they go straight to the manufacturer from them....abit won't do it directly....I have to go through the reseller. So its 4-5 weeks if abit is busy...2-3 if they're not.

BK,

That would be a good idea:), but it's not really what I meant. It's just that we seem to have gotten to a point where so many companies have this approach to the customer, and it just flat pisses me off.:( When I was most of you guy's age, no company would ever even consider making a customer wait that long to replace defective merchandise.

I guess it's just a different world now.

Russ and BurntKooshie-To me the problem is that people accept poor service. The only way to fight back is to tell the company that this is your last order with them, and mean it. Then tell your friends and go post on Resellars how you were treated. Also always spread the word about those who give you good service.

5 weeks? Duh.. Atleast down here we have this authority called something like 'consumers' protection bureau'. You can threaten the shops with them and usually it helps if they try to pull some idiotic scheme like not replacing defective part asap :)

Hey, Russ, I know you sell stuff and since you're a good Anandtech guy, I trust you. Do you have a web site for your selling or anything? As my extended family's resident computer geek, I do a fair amount of parts buying and I'd love to have somebody I trust. I've just had WAY too many bad experiences (though some good, too.)

Never two bad ones from the same place, though. Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me... :)

I'll do Russ a favor and post the link for him, so he can't be accused of commercial promotion. :)

Russ IS a very trustworthy vendor in addition to being a solid supporter of the team....

Here's his URL: http://www.compucheap.com

Doesn't really look much different than the current pics. Only added this one node since I updated them. I'll do new ones when the rack is at full capacity.:) Of course, I may too be busy building a second one.:D

Hey BK dont feel too bad about frying a 700mhz cpu, Kyle of HardOCP fried a 1ghz Tbird last week. Though he never did say if it lasted the 8 seconds AMD says a 1ghz chip will last without propper cooling :)
