cpuz

Hey

I recently installed cpuz and I was wondering if I have an incorrect setting in my bios. My cpu speed should be around 2.0-2.5 ghz. CPUz is saying 803mhz.

I remember doing this when I first got the cpu around 2-3 years ago and I remember it reading 2+ghz. Its actually an X2 black edition that where the extra 2 cores were unlockable. Maybe that's why?

All of my multiplier setting in my bios is on AUTO. I never really bothered to overclock so I never really changed any of that.

here's a screenshot

Thanks

Cpu-Z shows the actual frequency of the CPU. Modern CPUs underclock themselves when idle, to save energy and produce less heat. Once you start some cpu intensive task, the cpuz will show the "correct" frequency, as the cpu stops idling atm.

Intel has SpeedStep and AMD Cool'nQuiet technologies for energy saving when CPU is idle.

If you haven't changed any clock related BIOS settings the above technologies is what underclock the CPU.

Just run a program to load the CPU (e.g. Prime95), launch CPU-Z and check the speed again. It should be OK this time.

It's totally fine. Your CPU downclocks to save power when it's not being used heavily. You'll notice that the clockspeed and voltage drop when you're not heavily stressing the computer.

Download a program like Prime95 or run a 3d game in a window and you'll see the clockspeed jump up because the CPU is being worked heavily.
