i just bought the bh6(slot 1, 100mhz fsb max) from compgeeks. i want to run a 700mhz chip.
Since i am amd user, I dont know much about all the cely/pIII chips out there. should i get slot one chip or go with a fcga or socket370.
Will i need a slocket? what do the suffixes on pIII's mean (ie e/b/c)
I also heard that cely II are cheaper and easier to OC.

thanks ur help is appriciated

what bios ## supports PIII 700e

Check to see which board version you have, then check Abit's site to see which CPUs it will support.

In general... slot 1 P3's are harder to find and cost more money. You will likely be able to get a socket adapter and socket 370 cpu for less money than a slot 1 cpu.

The Celeron 566s, 600s, and 633s and very overclockable. If you can find one... the P3 700e is also very overclockable.

Pentium III processors with "E" after their clock speed are based on a coppermine core, have 256k of full speed cache, and a 100MHz front side bus.

Pentium III processors with "EB" are based on a coppermine core, have 256k of full speed cache, and have a 133MHz front side bus.

Pentium III processors with "B" after their clock speed are based on the Katmai core, have 512k of 1/2 speed cache, and have a 133MHz front side bus.

When you look for a cpu for your BH6, get an "E" (100MHz FSB). This will allow you to overclock by setting the FSB anywhere between 100 and 133. 133MHz is as fast as this board will go.

I'd stay away from the celerons as they really suck in perfomance compared to the P3.

Getting a slotket with a FCPGA cpu is the best way to here. 750's go for abour $130, 850's will go for about $150. I think a good question to ask everybody out there is how high have they gotten their P3 700's overclocked??????

I had a BH6 rev 1.0X running a P3550E @ 730MHz and it ran GREAT.
