CPU-Z shows the wrong multiplier

It shows my E6420 as E6500 with multiplier 6-8 ! 6-8 what is that? This is CPUz 1.3.9 the latest as far as I know. Know the E6420 is new but what's with that multi.
 
You have power saving features turned on in your bios.

Keep CPU-Z open... and start Spi or Orthos and watch it change to its correct X. It's just saving power.. cutting down on the multiplier and/or FSB. If you go to your bios and find the power section or whichever screen controls it.. you can just set it to disabled to have no power savings features... what many do if they OC>

To expand a bit: recent Intel processors (particularly the Core 2 series) have Enhanced Intel SpeedStep, a form of SpeedStep, which lets them vary the multiplier dynamically in order to save power.
 
thanks guys. disabling that cleared that right up.


im trying to OC this and its my first system in 4 years to OC. any sites that go over all the bios settings?
