I was building my computer last nite and after I plugged everything in (heres the two specs you really need to know):: from newegg

Mobo: MB ASUS K8V SE DELUXE K8T800 RETAIL
CPU: AMD 64 |3200+ ATHLON 64 RTL

it has a vocal POST.... when i plug it in and boot it up the POST tells me thru my speakers "PROBLEM WITH THE CPU...." so i figured that it wasn't plugged in right (socket 754s are kinda easy but u never know).... tried it again, same message, then i took the CPU out and wanted to see if maybe the CPU was bad (off the bat) and it says "NO CPU PRESENT"... has anyone ever encountered this problem? This isnt the first CPU i've built and Ive never had a problem before...

While rare, CPU's can be defective. If you can borrow a friend's CPU or put your CPU in a friend's board, that'd be a great idea to make sure the CPU is at fault. Most likely you'll only be confirming that you need to RMA it though. If you can't exchange, you may still want to just RMA.

Will the system move past the complaint about the CPU, or does it stall there?

Could be the BIOS needs to be updated to support that CPU. I tried going to the ASUS site to see what BIOS versions are available and what issues each addresses, but their download server seems to be acting up.

I would RMA both the mobo and the CPU. One of them is faulty, and you have no way of determining which is bad.

This is why I prefer MWave for new systems. You can buy their mobo bundles and they assemble and test them for $9.
