cpu voltage control in win7?

I like a lot of the smart improvements in win7. However, my core usage on my processor isn't very high in the task manager, yet it's at full speed and max stock voltage. I don't think it should have my processor at full speed if it isn't being utilized, and even at that speed, my processor is completely stable with less voltage.

I used crystalcpuid with vista- good way to get a three tier voltage+multiplier control.

It's be nice is someone knows of something built in (with a gui) in win7 to facilitate what I'd like.

I've been running W7 for several months now, and not seen anything like that. Generally that feature is built into the CPUs/motherboards themselves, I.E. Intel Speedstep and AMD Cool n' Quiet, and I would look in the bios for those options.

Yeah, I used to have them disabled to overclock. But now, I need them off, or my soundcard only gives off distorted, chewed-up, angry noises- good for nothing really. I do have the bios voltage and multiplier set to "auto" with the motherboard control disabled. I had it the same way before I installed 7, and had vista. Used crystalcpuid and it worked great. But I don't know if the current version directly supports 7, or just vista. Wondering if there are any options to look into until a supported version is released.

Have you tried it? In most cases, if a program ran on Vista, it will run on 7. I've been able to run CrystalCPUID on my W7 64 bit just fine, though I don't overclock from windows, it was working great as a diagnostic tool.

Running CrystalCPUIDx64 on Win 7
I drop to lowest multplier when not using.
Voltage needs to be on auto on some MB.
MSI p45 and 7 vcore manual no voltage control on Crystal.
Asus Rampage p48 vcore manual Crystal can change voltage.

sweet- it does work. I would have tried it for myself, but didn't have time to set up a sandbox. Playing it easy on this windows install!
