with christmas closin in my friends thinkin bout upgrading again. this time the processor. he games alot and likes to stream most of them while playing. he currently has a phenom II 550 x2. hes on a strict budget so can u give me some suggestions to some that are budget material but also would give him the performance he wants.
 
Strict budget means...? How much money total to be spent on the upgrade? A Phenom II X4 Black Edition and a nice aftermarket cooler would let him OC the chip into the mid-high 3GHz range and that would be a marked improvement over his current CPU.
 
Well i havn't checked his motherboard if it has unlocking. And he's got under $200 to spend. But he asked me to try to keep it as cheap as possible. He prefers not to OC if he can help it.

That deal is expired but that should be your benchmark for what is a good deal. 4 cores at 3GHz for $120 or less. With lots of cache, of course. You might also want to look into a X4 + motherboard combo. After all, you'll want to do something with the old chip.
