CPU upgrade single to dual core AM2

Anybody got a quick solution, I thought you have to do a repair install to fix this.
Any ideas? How searched the forum

Yeah.. I think at the very least you need to do a repair.

More than likely you should do a reinstall.

Don't forget to install AMD's dual core stuff on XP if you're going that route. Vista has no such problems of course ;)

I don't want to spent hours on it rebuilding the O/S, as that will just be charged to the client.

If the current HAL type is ACPI Uniprocessor PC (and the BIOS supports the new CPU), you don't need to intervene here other than to install the CPU. Windows will automatically install the Multiprocessor HAL.

Now if ACPI is actually spelled out "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface" PC, that's not compatible and the only solution is a repair install (in-place upgrade).
