CPU Upgrade Question: Duron 1.2 Retail VS Athlon 1.3 OEM

Ok kids.
i have a Abit KT7 MB w/ a Duron 600 oc'ed to 897 (when it is cold enough outside) and a FOP32 (loud).

i am upgrading.

question: should i get a Duron 1.2 Retail ($47) or a Athlon 1.3 OEM ($56).
both would be limited to 200 mhz FSB cause of my MB.

peace in.

oem cpu = cpu only
retail cpu= cpu + hsf

Edit: If you want it quieter, go with the stock hsf (retail). If you want better performance and cooling, go with an aftermarket hsf. I would get the Athlon and use your current hsf until you want to spend the money on something better.

I would go for the Duron Morgan 1200... its just as fast as the Athlon 1300 and it has some extra features similar to the ones in the XP processor. It also cheaper and runs a lot cooler.

Just my penny 😉

How about a Duron 1.3 for $49?

Duron 1.3 $49

It has SSE and hardware prefetch, making it as fast or faster in some apps than the Athlon 1.3 and much, much cooler running as it's based on the Palomino core, not the Thunderbird core.

thanks for all the advice.
i already ordered the Duron 1.2 retail. it is the Morgan core i believe. i can switch to the 1.3 Duron if you guys think. i am doing the Staples Gonna hate me Thread.

my MB does not support XP.

i have a HSF - fop32, and a Duron 600 retail HSF.

i have 512 meg memory, 60 gig HDD, blah blah.

and also just purchased a ATI Radeon 8500LE 128.

any other Q's?

I got a 1.2 Duron - Definitely faster than a 600. However, the HSF that came with it wasnt quite up to the job. It would hit 52-54 celcius under load, in a very well ventilated case. So I went with a Volcano 7+ and it never goes over 42 celcius now, on the LOW fan speed setting even...
