CPU Upgrade Advice

Just gonna copy n paste my thread at another forum:

I currently have an AMD Athlon X2 4200+, 2GB DDR2-667 memory, a 9600 GT, and a Foxconn NForce 590 SLI motherboard.

I'm considering upgrading my processor soon. Right now I can either pick up an Athlon 6000+ (or perhaps one of the Black Edition processors) or spend a little bit more money and grab a new motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo 7200. I don't really want to spend more than $200, so I guess my question is what kind of performance difference exists between the 6000+ and a 7200? Is it worth the extra ~$150 and hassle of installing a motherboard?

I probably won't have enough cash to upgrade the memory with it, so it'll be puttering along on what I have.

is the motherboard I would probably grab to go with it, unless anyone knows of a cheaper one that is pretty decent. I don't really plan on overclocking, though I hear these OC really well so it might be something I do in the future.

Any thoughts?

The E7200 is faster than the 6000+ by only 5%. Definately not worth $150.

If you buy the 6000+ from newegg, you will also get a free game (GRID).
If you aren't willing to play the game, you can use a a coupon (EMCAJAFAF) to knock $10 off

Yes, here's one...
* CPU > E2180 OC'd to around 3GHz for about $70
* MB > P35 based board for about $90
* Memory > Mushkin 2GB PC2-6400 less than $40 after rebate

that?s your best bet by far

Uh, an E2180 @ 3.0 GHz is going to perform the same (maybe even worse) as a 6000+ in gaming applications (look here). I wouldn't even consider an E2180 an option. His money would be better served (and saved) if he just upgraded to a 6000+ or even the new 5400+ Black Edition.

The difference of the E2180 over the Core 2 processors is that it has a lower FSB and less L2 cache.

E7200 review

Based on this review, at stock clocks, you probably wouldnt notice much of a difference. But I am sure you would after overclocking.

at $90, you can get a P43.
or are P35 better OC'ers?
