when i overclocked my athlon 2500 to 3200 speeds, windows frequently said "windows registry encountered an error and will repair your registry? is this a sign of an unstable overclock? what are the signs of unstable overclock? how do i know if the overclock is stable?

that seems to indicate stabilty.

most people will tell u to run prime 95 for 12 or so hours to test for stabilty but i have a 1700+@2200 mhz and a 2500+@2200 mhz. both fail Prime, BUT i can loop 3dmark and there have been no signs of instability. i can also game for hours without any instability so that is good enough for me

Yeah that's definitely unstable to be having registry problems... Make sure your PCI bus is locked at 33mhz.

Shady, you show that you are at 3200+ with stock voltage. Did you try bumping by .5v or so and see if it fixes the prime problem? Just a thought, it might fix that small prob and probably will only up your temps by 2-3 degrees. My tbred runs 2.4 with 1.775v(1.72 act), and I've run p95 for almost 48hr without error, but at default voltage I was having p95 probs at 2.1ghz and still running apps smoothly.

Getting registry errors seems more like corruption of the HDD than anything...

I agree, make sure you have the PCI/AGP lock in place ( if the board supports it )

Jay, what are your current Vcore and Vdimm voltages?

i don't know what the vdimm is but the vcore is maxed out at 1.75. the motherboard can't increase the voltage no more. is there a voltmod for the kt4v-l?

1.75 seems that it would be enough for that thing to run @ 2.2

Check your vdimm in the BIOS, it may possibly have a jumper on the board.

Registry corruption will be either The HDD (pci bus being too far out of spec) or ram being clocked too high or aggressive....

Shady...prime can fail and 3dmark may not cause prime95 is a much more thorough tester of all of the pcu whereas the 3dmark is not. 3dmark can offload a lot of the work to the gpu of the vid card.....If prime fails within a minute then you have some issues somewhere wether it is cpu, mobo, ram or whatnot....
