cpu trouble p4

When I start my computer up it goes to the cmos and stopw at the cpu speed. In the item specs help it says during last bootup your system hung for an improper cpu setting. However, I have a p4 2.4 and the multiplies are 18x cpu multiplier and 133/33 external frequency? any idea where the problem is?

clear the cmos and try it again

cleared cmos via instructions start machine into cmos 2 options showing 2400 or manual-push enter to set 2400 set clock date etc go to save and restart. Machine shuts down then I get a black screen? Anmy thoughts
