Hiya guys.

Just bought a 128mb GeForce 3 Ti200, upgraded from a GeForce 2 Ti200 (cheap deal). It's currently in a PC running a 900MHz Duron (KT133A chipset) and 256 MB memory. I have the drivers installed that came with the cd and the standard 4in1 drivers installed (haven't had a chance to download later drivers yet for the video card, only got it last night). In dungeon seige at 1024x768x16, i'm getting between 15 and 25 fps. If I lower the res to 640x480x16, it's stays pretty much the same. Running Windows XP. It is pretty much the same frame rate as my old video card...

Will later drivers make this quicker? (Would have thought I'd pull slightly higher from rates than this). If I put in an XP1700 will this drastically improve the frame rate? Or is my older memory slowing me down?

Thanks guys! Appreciated! :)

Durons are not a very good choice for gaming. The combination of PC133 is really holding you back as well. Yes you would see a drastic improvement, but running an XP proc without DDR would hold your system back quite a bit as well.

Off to check the reviews on DDR vs SDRAM...might have to upgrade my motherboard, and memory :)

it is not too severe, but going to an athlon XP will definitely net an improvement and DDR will not another improvement.

So, if I may ask :), if I just get a XP 1700, how much performance gain am I looking at? Getting a new board and memory and CPU will kinda not help the bank account :) Will it be worth it to just get a XP? Thanks again guys, muchly appreciated!

That Duron 900 is plenty for gaming. It will play any game available. Don't let anyone tell you the Duron is not a good gaming cpu.

i agree, at least if you're on a budget like me (no wait, i'm just poor! hah!). if you have money laying around, then sure, upgrade, but if you dont have alot of money to spend, just keep what you have. come on, a duron 900 and a gf3 is PLENTY for gaming....

Ok, lets say it is 'plenty for gaming', why am I getting such low framerates with a Geforce 3? 20 frame per second is pretty slow...any tips to speed this up then? :)

Try Overclocking your Duron. If anything, make sure you are running at the 133Mhz FSH and mememory speed. You may have to unlock your CPU using the pencil trick to allow more multipliers.

Dungeon Siege isnt really reporting great frame rates to people, even on top of the line computers. Maybe its displays fps wrong or something, but that system is fine considering i ran the demo on my p3 with 256 ram and an old 16meg Ati Rage pro card just fine.

Always upgrade the video card drivers! You might see a nice improvement and it costs nothing.

Ahhhhh.......haven't tested it with anything else, so that may be the problem....Going to have to do some extensive testing this weekend...

Any recommendations on the best driver version to use? Do I use one from guru3d.com or an official one from nVidia?

yeah I only get 30fps with everything cranked up with a GeForce4 Ti 4400. I would wait for the next Athlons to come out.

Don't evaluate your 3D performance based on Dungeon Siege. Frames rates below 30fps are normal for this game.

out of intrest what does it currently score on 3dmark 2001?

definetly update the drivers

my friend had a athlon 1.3ghz, 256mb ddr, g2 mx. he had never updated his drivers. he got like 700 on 3dmark. (my k6-2 450, 128 ram, v3 got 550). we updated the drivers and his score shot to 1700

try it

Sure the Duron is plenty for gaming if you enjoy a 640x480 resolution

Well, I am running a Athlon 700 here with DDR and a GF3 and could not be happier with the performance in the one game that I do play: Counter-strike :D
