CPU that came from newegg OEM INTEL tells me it is a rebadged CPU

Is it normal for the IHS to look like it's corners have been ground down? The whole IHS looks wrong to me.

Hahahaha

This is great.

Intel deserves this.

The only reason such a sofisicated operation has sprung up out of Asia is because the Intel chips are so expensive compared to AMD that the price difference has made it worth it to go to such lengths to do this scam.

Way to go Asian Boys

Have you lost your mind? Just because it is profitable to counterfeit the labeling on chips doesn't mean that Intel "deserves" it. The persons who created the false labeling are the ones in the wrong because it was their actions that were intended to deceive.

Intel's pricing isn't the issue here. In the end, it is consumers who buy mislabled parts who are hurt.

That must have been a sarcastic reply, otherwise it's probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen an elite member post on these boards.

I'm guessing it's not sarcastic... dmcowen674 isn't exactly a big fan of Intel (or any other market dominent player, for that matter.)

I think your stuck, or should get your friend to give you 1/2 the money back or something, but Newegg has honored it's 30-day warranty. They might choose to help, but if they don't I wouldn't blame them. Heck, they aren't even dealing with the original person who bought it, namely your friend.

Other than that, I would say to underclock it back to 100 MHz FSB (2400/133=18, so 18x100=1800 MHz), so you at least get a (possibly) working 1.8GHz.

Unless you don't have the cpu anymore.

I'm not sure I follow: how does this affect Intel?

or

How is this Intel's fault?

AMD has had it's fair share of unlocked/rebadged cpu's also, and AMD cpu's are a LOT EASIER to unlock, I'd say Intel at least is making it difficult to remark and then rebadge cpu's unless your a professional. Certainly not your everyday overclocker can do it well enough to sell it to a big retailer like Newegg.

This is not the first time NewEgg has been in trouble. They were selling warez versions ("grayware" back then) of IBM software when they were EggHead software -thus the "secret" demise of EggHead.

you moron. keep your frickin mouth shut unless you know what you are talking about. newegg is not related to egghead whatsoever. so get your facts straight before you speak.

I designed and fit up Intel's RMA warehouse for the US.

Sorry, can't help you, but it was a chance to brag. 🙂
