Ouch,

For a P4 idle that is a bit hot but still within spec. I think Intel says about 74C after that Thermal proctection begins and the CPU throttles down.

Are you using the retail HSF? Any Artic Silver??

Scrape the foil of that heatsink too... That could have your temps WAY up.

:)

Good luck.

EDIT:

Also which motherboard? Abit tends to read high by a good 5-10C...

Even at that, your still at 55 idle which is much to high. Especially if you plan to overclock.

Dont worry, 63 degrees is fine, my Athlon XP 3000+ reaches 58 degrees cus I'm using the Retail Heatsink.

I'm going to get myself a nice new one when I feel the need, with the new 83CFM Vantec Tornado 80mm and an adapter on a good heatsink. That should drop the temps by about 12 degrees :p

63 degrees really isn't "fine" for a p4...

I am betting you didnt take the foil of that retail heatsink... It can easily have your temps up 10degrees... Plus Abit reads 5 or 10 high, your right on the money with high 40's lower 50's...

:)

Agreed, check the foil, or use Arctic Silver.

However, 63c should indeed be fine as the cpu can go up to 85c before starting to meltdown.
