CPU temps jumped and won't go back down.

I just recently built my new computer about 2 weeks ago.
I have:
EPoX 9NPA+
AMD64 3200+ Venice (w/ stock heatsink and fan)
Leadtek 6600GT
Corsair ValueSelect RAM
Seasonic Super Silencer 460W

Up till yesterday morning, the CPU temp was shown to be 28*C - 34*C and system temp was ranging 26*C - 34*C. But yesterday, it was around 95*F outside and when I came back from shopping the PC had shut down. I assumed it was due to the heat. I turned it back at night, and the CPU temps were showning around 40*C - 46*C. The system temp was at 30*C. I turned it on this morning (7:00AM) and in the PC Health of the BIOS the CPU temp was fluctuating between 44*C and 46*C. I'm guessing the room temp was 77*F.

[edit] 2 things I forgot to mention. I took off the side panel and I even placed a portable fan in front, in back, and side of the case to see if it would reduce the temps. Nothing. [/edit]

I haven't changed anything in a week. Could there be a problem? From reading other posts, these new CPU temps seem fine. But it's disconserting to see this jump all of a sudden.

i think with that stock cooler that original temps were faulty. that is awfully cool for that proc for stock, and 44 is fine.

Sounds like the jump I got from activating Q-Fan on my comp. This feature slows down the CPU fan speed when it's running cool. I'm idling at ~42C with Q-Fan activated (fan runs at ~2000RPM). I just deactivated Q-Fan when I read the first post and the fan is spinning at 4800RPM, and I'm at 37C already [still going down... usually stays at around 35C]

see if you have a feature like that to control fan speeds..
