Can anyone recomend a website where I can find guidelines on what temperatures different CPUs should run at, or at least the temp that they should not exceed.
BiggTrevDogg, While I don't have a website for you, your XP 1800+ load temps would depend on 2 issues; 1. how is the CPU temp measured and 2. what is the ambiant temp of the room your rig is in. For other AT users reading this thread, here's a linky for BiggTrevDogg's rig: http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.html?rigid=19624
Keep in mind that these are MAXIMUM temperatures. Also remember that unless your motherboard is actually using the onboard Athlon Diode to measure temps, your motherboard is probably underestimating the CPU temperature.
Overclockers can go here. If you're not overclocking, you can go above these temperatures.
My Athlon 1800+ (not overclocked) runs at 41C at load.
I think the general consensus here at Anandtech (based on some forum threads I've read) is that 60C is the highest you wanna go.
