CPU temperature?

ok, i have two issues with my build (FYI im a first timer). the first is an issue with my hard drive. i have a western digital sata-300 drive and a p4p800se mobo(asus). the puter says theres no drive attached. how many cables should be hooked into the drive cause theres a sata cable to the board, a cable that looks like a bigger version of sata cable that goes to psu and a regular 4 prong power cord connect spot. do all need to be hooked in?

second is more a question than an issue. im running a 3ghz prescott with a thermaltake hsf. the hsf doesnt look like anything more than basic and im worrying from reading reviews that prescotts over heat. im wondering if this hsf is sufficient. my cpu is at 56.5 celcius, just at bios setup, and the board is at 40 degrees. is this too hot?

-thanks

The SATA cable and one power connector. Hooking up both power connectors can damage the drive, read the fscking manual next time.

Yea that's kinda hot, did you do the thermal paste right? Is the heatsink seated properly? Is the fan going?

The BIOS setup screen seems to run the CPU at essentially 100% in some cases, so letting it sit there is sometimes a good way to figure out what your maximum temperatures are going to be. As long as your system isn't crashing, temperature isn't terribly important if it's not like 70 degrees. You may just need to provide better airflow into the case. (And you did remove whatever protection there may have been on top of the thermal material on the heatsink, if it was pre-applied, right?)

What do you mean "the puter [I hate that shorthand] says there's no drive attached"? Where does it say that? The P4P800SE only supports SATA 1.5G, so I think there's a jumper on the hard drive that has to be either connected or removed to make it run at that mode.

when i tried to install windows it said there were no drives attached. thanks for the tip on the jumper ill try that next, and the heat sink came with pre applied but i did take the cover off. 🙂
edit: i also probably have an airflow problem as the case fans included look really crappy 🙁 could anyone tell me a good, silent, cheap blue LED case fan (more good
then cheap)?
