CPU temperature query

Hi all

I just upgraded my i5 machine to an i7-3770K, with a corsair H80 liquid cooling system.

Was a pain to install, but I got it setup in the end, machine has been running fine, except...I'm worried about the CPU Temperature reading

At Idle, the "Temperature #1" in Open hardware monitor is showing 90C
(In Speedfan, it shows 90c on the CPU temperature)
CPU Core shows 25.5C
The cores are showing 28/28/28/28C
CPU package shows 28C as well.

If I run a torture test using Prime 95, the Temperature #1 drops from 90/91 to 40/41C?

As soon as I stop the program, it goes back up to 90c again.

The machine seems stable, I don't get any crashes or problems, I can run intensive games without issue, but I'm just wondering why I see weird temperature like that.

Speedfan is wrong. Use realtemp.

"AdamPD -- posts = 1" Welcome, AdamPD. [Shintai -- we seem to have an influx of noobs these days. This SpeedFan issue had been explored multiple times in the forums -- for years.]

Well! I do it! Ask questions that might take me hours to answer on my own. No such thing as a "bad question."

using old version of speedfan?

no problem with it on my system

Nothing wrong with Speedfan, it just shows all readings it gets from the io chip even if those readouts are not implemented on the board, leading to bogus values. If you want you can hide them under configure > temperatures > uncheck the box.

All you need to look at are the core temps, and those are fine.
