Did you use Arctic Silver or stock grease ?
Did you remove wax on bottom of CPU ?
I bought retail 2100XP for one PC and it came with wax on bottom.
I bought OEM 2100XP for another PC and it had NO wax.

Hi Jebatzel,

CPU - XP2000+
MB - Asus A7V266-E
Cooler - Thermalright SLK800 with controlled Vantec Tornado fan at 4,400 RPM
PSU - Enermax EG465P - VE
Lian Li Case PC65B
2 Inlet fans - 2 exhaust, 1 blowhole. Exhaust and Blowhole Enermax 80mm controlled running 3/4 speed
Video Card - VisionTek Ti4200 64mb

Room temps for me make a difference, no A/C in house. CPU never goes above 49degC in 30degC room. Current temps are: room 18degC, M/B 21degC and CPU 35degC. M/B usually runs 2 or 3 degC above room and CPU runs 13 -15 degC above M/B. I use MBM5 for temp readings. The only thing I see differrent with your set up is the cooler. Does it have thermal tape or paste?? That can also make a 1 -3degC difference.

I hope this helped,

using artic silver III

which idea would work best for cooling?

cutting a top blow top on my case (with 120mm fan) or replacing the heatsink/fan on the cpu.

the first one would be cheaper since I already have a fan, but it might not make as much difference.

Cooler Master HHC-001

that one looks like a good cooler.
