CPU temp sensor help....

My friends case has a built in temp gauge that is not working because the sensor is not connected. Where is that small sensor supposed to go? I don't want to place it where it doesn't belong, any suggestions? BTW, the processor is a Athlon XP 2500+ with stock heatsink. I heard you can place it in the heatsink, but just keeps falling out if the case is moved around. I would experiment more, but not my case so don't wanna take any chances. Thanks.
