Am i to assume that the Asus Probe V2.17 that came with my motherboard is more accurate in reading out the CPU Temp than say, Sisoft Sandra 2003???
The Asus Probe is giving me a temp reading of 46 degrees celcius idle while sandra is reading out 53 degrees celcius... they both have the cpu fan speed the same.. I remember reading somewhere that Sandras temp readings are never accurate, just wanted to ask and make sure..

Im told Asus Probe is slightly less reliable than sticking your finger in the case and phoning someone else to guess for you. :p

Try MBM5; or restart comp and go into BIOS and compare what that says to Probe/Sandra - not that BIOSes are all that accurate either.

In all my machines, I find the Asus Probe to be more reliable. I?ve conducted some tests with temperature meters and it has been proven so. But I didn?t try any other programs, so there may be some more accurate.

I have this Winbond software on my computer that tells me the temperatures on my CPU on my Abit KR7A-Raid. I was always under the impression that the Winbond software and the BIOS took their temperature readings from the same temperature reading device (probe, thermistor, thermal diode, or some other crud like that). For Motherboard Monitor 5, don't you need to physically stick a probe/thermistor/thermal diode/etc. under the CPU, and then the software reads it from that equipment?

nope, it reads the diodes

What's the benefit of MBM 5 then? I would think most mobos that had a temperature reading feature would advertise it and provide software for it.

MBM5 tends to be a lot more flexible than any software provided with the board. It lets you customize alarm settings, ways to display the information onscreen, email alert message, ties into auto-shutdown programs, etc, etc. As already stated, it reads off the diodes on the board, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that, for the truly hardcore, some soldering of a mobo chip could allow an external probe to be read from as well.
