ok.....here's the deal.........i have athlon xp barton 2600+.......thermaltake volcano 9 hsf, two thermaltake volcan case fans.......abit kd7 mobo......my temps in bios read as follows

cpu surface: 46C
cpu core: 63C

wtf........is this accurate?......is this high?......seems high.......when i'm playin a game, after awhile my comp. auto reboots.....event log is showing 0x0...9c erros which could mean heat problems.....i'm confused on what i should be concerned about, cpu surface temp or core temps????

Worry more about the surface temp. That later high number is reading directly from the DIODE which is always hotter than a socket reading..

AMD states it's CPU's are safe up till 94C... No needs to worry..

Are you using thermal tape/pad? If so, scrape that off and get some Artic silver or something of that sort.

If you are not having stability issues, don't worry.

Also: Abit tends to read high by 3-5C...

My advice is to throw that Thermaltake heatsink in the trash and pick up something else. And you need to worry about the CPU core temp, and yours is a bit high. Make sure the cabling inside the PC isn't obstructing airflow, and blast the dust out of there too.
