CPU temerature software?

I tried installing speed fan but it doesn't seem to give me a temp for the CPU, just the HD.

I figure there must be some free software out there that is made to display the CPU temperature.

In case it is processor specific it's a P4 3.0 GHZ CPU that is in a toshiba satellite. Also does anyone know what this CPU should be idleing at? I figure it could be the CPU temp because this computer will randomly turn off, sometimes it starts being very unresonsive even when not a lot of CPU is being taken up and there is a fair amount of free ram.

What do you think about the issues it's having?

I always thought that you needed specific hardware (temp monitor) for the CPU to get its temperature. I know that many HDs come with the temp monitor already built in, that may be why that's the only temp showing. I have a similar setup. I use System Info for Windows to check stuff and under 'temp monitirs' the HD is the only thing that shows up for me because I have not installed any additional temp monitors.
