Is the cpu temp sensor suppose to touch the bottom of the cpu. I bent it up a bit when i intalled new mother board and am getting hot temps of up to 55c when my 1 Ghz T-bird is @ 1.33 Ghz (1.75 volts)but it is stable. I have a swifttech 370 with a delta 60mm fan with artic silver paste. It has been installed correctly and have cleaned and reset it several times to see if that was the problem the only thing i can think of is
A) Bad cpu
b) temp sensor too close to cpu
the motherboard is a MSI K7 Turbo rev.3.0

thanks for your ideas

Well, firstly AMD's run pretty hot anyway. You're definately not alone in the 55C temp range. Second, The closer to the CPU the better. You wouldn't want a temp probe farther away, you're getting a less accurate reading that way. Anyhow, You should really speak with Mikewarrior2. He's the expert around here on CPU cooling. He'll be able to tell you what most people get with your motherboard. Note that because of the innacuracies of CPU temp readings on AMD based systems, you can't really compare your temps with people that have a different motherboard.

Edit: Here is a similar question in the CPU forum. Apparently MSI KT1 turbos commonly read in the 50 to 60C range. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=28&threadid=457695

Here's what Mikewarrior2 said:

<< You can't compare your temps to other mb's. BEcause of the crappy nature of amd temp reading, each motherboard varies greatly in how it interprets socket-thermistor temps. For k7t-turbo class mb's, they tend to readin the 50-60C range quite often.
If you really want to drop your temps, consider a better heatsink, but your temps are still in the normal range for "your mb", which is the only thing you can even remotely compare to.
