I bought a Alpha PAL6035 Kit (Includes fan and thermal compound) from www.2cooltek.com
I'm getting 59C, higher after gaming. whats the deal?

-Should i apply more thermal paste?

-MBM5 reporting temps wrong?

Those two articles should point you in the right direction. What speed is the processor? With thermal paste, you are trying to use as LITTLE as possible, no more. a paper thin coating on the cpu will actually squeeze most of it out. If your CPU is above 1ghz, then I either suggest a new heatsink (plycon.com has the thermalright SK-6, all copper cooler for 40 bucks, best heatsink on the market) or strap a delta 60mm fan on there, because if your CPU is reported at 59c IDLE....I fear what will happen if it continues at that temp.

Before you get too worried, double check your instincts. MBM5 isnt always reliable, and still has issues with certain chipsets. Check your temp in the bios and see if it matches. Make sure your voltage core is set correctly.

Temps that hot don't happen unless something is very wrong - and my suspicion is that the software is lying. As long as your not overclocking ridiculously, and your Vcore is right, that temp should be near impossible to reach.

What motherboard are you using. Sine socket-a temp reading sucks, the readings are entirely dependant on your MB for your "reasonable" temp range. Also, how's your case cooling, and how's your room temp?

Mikewarrior2, do the monitoring utilities like MBM and Asusprobe use the BIOS readings or do they monitor the sensors seperatly?
My BIOS and software give nearly identical readings, but other guys seem to get way different readings. I know the MBO sensors may not be ideally positioned, but do you think the BIOS, reports them accuratly?

You're getting good help, for the most part. Start with default bios settings at stock speed.

1. Super thin layer of compound

2. Make sure the clip isn't installed 180 degrees out, the pressure point should be directly over the processor core.

3. The fan should pull air thru the sink and exhaust it away, Alphas are the exception to the rule in this respect.

4. Don't trust MBM or the bios temps, they're pretty much for comparison purposes only. Check the calibration by booting a stone cold machine directly to the bios readings, they should be very near ambient. High ambient temps have a profound effect, as well.

Try running it with the case cover off, just to see if you need better case ventilation.

Doesn't seem like you have an intel processor, but alphas and intels can require extra care to be sure that there is good contact with the processor core.

I have the same problem, having readings that seems a little bit high, I'm running MBM 5.5 and Asus Probe in my P3V4X with a PIII 733 MHZ 133 FSB, my HS is an Alpha 6035 with a YS fan (sucking), but I think that in my case since I'm using my chip in an slocket the readings are not accurate, and also I have 2 80 mm fans (1 in and 1 out).
At this moment my case temp is 31 C degress and the cpu is between 51 and 55 c degress running seti and surfing at the same time, plus playing mp3s.

I already went thru 3 differents hsf setups and I gave up, so I will not change anything else as long the temp stays with this readings.

Best regards

MStudd,

They should read the same, save for a few erratic builds of PCprobe. They both read temp from the same Asus chip, so they should be getting the same "readings".
