cpu recommendation for windows server 2003

i am building a development server (won't be live). i will install server 2003 standard and sql server 2k. i will be using to do coding/development at home. i just want to make sure that i have stability and try to get 2 years out of it before i have to upgrade/build. i have been thinking about going barton 2500, athlon64 2800, or p$ 2.8C/E. any suggestions? thanks

I'd think about going Athlon 64 or Opteron actually. You can upgrade to a 64 bit OS and apps when they come out and get a "free" speed boost.

I have 2003 Enterprise Editon on a Abit KV8 & AMD 64 2800+ and it runs awesome. I also have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition sp3a and IIS running and im very happy with this system. Abit boards have always rocked and been very stable for me. The good thing about this board is the AMD 64 2800+ is on the low end for this board so i have quite a bit of room for upgradeability. Oh btw im also running GEIL Value PC3200 with heat spreader which i use in all my systems and have been extremly happy with.

Although Opteron or athlon 64 would rock. I have an athlon xp 2500 running SBS 2003 and it is fast. So it depends on the $ u have to spend.
