For my studies I work alot with Matlab and Solid Edge. Which CPU delivers the best performance in these two programmes? Athlon 64 or Pentium IV? Since I cannot find any usefull tests on the internet I hope you guys can help me out (y)

Thx!

i believe opterons are generally regarded as top dog when it comes to raw number crunching, so i'd for AMD64 for Matlab.

As for solid edge,i don't even know what that is :)

Yes. What is the budget ? Is it I/O dependent ? is it a memory hog ? Dual Opterons with 2 gig and a fast SCSI subsystem will handle almost anything, but cost a lot of $$$$$$$$$$

The budget is for an Athlon 64 or Pentium IV system, 1 gig ram, 1 cpu. So nothing fancy, just regular hardware.

Matlab is just about matrix algebra, Solid Edge is a 3D techical drawing environment (comparable to autocad).
