cpu ram question

A qualified yes. The memory you need is dependant on your MB not the CPU. There are a few MB's that dont like certain manufs. of memory. Post your MB and we can tell you which memory it supports.
 
Yes, it will definitely work. It just will be holding the processor back performance-wise. And Magnus is right in a way: some motherboards don't like some brands of RAM.
 
You would want DDR400 unless you just want to reuse the DDR333. Take a look at the major manufs. like Corsair, OCZ, Geil, Mushkin etc.

You get though telling him some ram may not work, then go on to telkl him to look at some general ram providers not mentioning once about how each place can does and will often use the exact same chips rated at differant speeds.

Not that I thought youd even know that.
